Water Ski or Wakeboard?
You may already know - it’s just what appeals most. Like snow skiing or snowboarding one will just be the one that you want to try.
Water Skiing is where it all started and skimming over the top of the water remains a totally enthralling activity. Beginners will soon be up on 2 skis then, with a bit more practise, on to one ski throwing up those big plumes of water as you turn.
Wakeboarding is at the forefront of the latest wave of board sports to capture the imagination. Typical of all board sports you have a sideways stance and it's all about learning new moves as your ability rapidly increases. It comes with a youthful image, its own terminology and even its own line in fashion. You will soon be up and riding and then trying the first of the never ending moves as your ability quickly increases.
Boat or Cable?
The choice is just down to how you want to go about these sports.
Our Boat Operation offers individual tuition with your own boat and instructor for each session. We teach all our beginners on our half day courses. You start by watching our instructional DVD which will give you all the basics so you know what to expect. Then it is out on to the water for 3 x 15 minute sessions when we will soon have you up on the water and enjoying your new skills. We use a boom system and even offer a money back guarantee if we cannot get you up and going. Your sessions will normally be taken over 3 hours to allow you to rest in between each one and also ride in the boat and watch others.
Our beginner's courses cost £65 for both water skiing and wakeboarding. To book beginner half day courses on the boats please just phone JBSki on 0870 6061270 or email info@jbwaterski.com. After registering you can also book your sessions online at www.jbski.com
The Cable Tow offers a really cost effective way to get on the water. Our 2 hour beginner's ski school has introduced thousands of new skiers and riders to the sport. You start by watching our instructional DVD and completing our registration. After changing in to wet suit and life jacket you will then be met by your instructor and be shown the basics of how to start. Then it is out on to the water with our special winch system that allows you to get the hang of the basics in a controlled environment. Once you have mastered these you will be out on to the main cable to continue your progression.
Your First Visit to JBSki?
Nothing to worry about, we remember we were all beginners once and a large part of the enjoyment we get from the sports is teaching newcomers.
Cable Sessions
If you have chosen to learn on the Cable you will be attending one of our Cable Ski Schools, any newcomer to the lake has to attend these. These sessions cost £35 and include all the equipment and your session fees for time on the water. The only extras will be your locker hire (£1) and any refreshments after your time on the water. Just bring your swimming costume / shorts and a towel, though if you forget anything our shop can provide all the kit.
We run ski school on the hour every hour from when we open up to 2 hours before we close (see the calendar and opening times). You can book places on the ski school sessions to ensure you will not be disappointed; we need payment with the booking which cuts out the hassle. Please ring Reception on 0870 6061270 to book. Please note you will need to arrive half an hour before your session for the registration process. Come across the bridge and turn left to Reception to check in for the session. You will then be asked to watch our instructional and health and safety DVD and then register on one of our computer terminals. This is once off and will speed up the process of getting on the water in the future. You can also watch the training DVD on line before you come to the lake to speed up registration - http://www.jbski.com/videos/4 - Cable Instructional Video.
Once you have done that go back to reception and pay for your session (if you did not prepay). We will issue you with your wrist band for the session that operates our Cable turnstile; please wear this on your left wrist on the outside of your wet suit (to swipe through the turnstile). We then issue with your kit (wet suit, life jacket, helmet, ski school bib) and you go and get changed. The JBSki wet suits all have zips up the back and JBSki on the outside on the front and also on the INSIDE on the front and back we have printed FRONT & BACK! Wet suits need to be a little tight to work properly so once you have squeezed in to the suit put on your life jacket and then the ski school bib over the top. It is very much wakeboard fashion to wear a pair of shorts on top of your wet suit (don’t ask why – there is no practical purpose other than just looking cool!). Please note all beginners must wear wet suits to prevent the delicate parts of your body.
Bring your bag out of the changing room to put in one of the hire lockers to keep it safe. Do not leave any bags, clothes or valuables in the changing rooms. By now it will be nearing the time for your ski school to start so please go and stand by the Ski School sign on the patio where you will be met by your instructor. The session will then start as described in the “Boat or Cable?” section above. If you have any questions or just cannot master any of the skills remember to just ask an instructor for help – that’s what they are there for. You keep going as long as you want within the two hour Cable session and finish once you are tired or the session time is up (your wrist band will not swipe through the turnstile any longer). Once you are done pick up your bag, shower off and get changed. Please turn your wet suit back the right way round and leave it hanging on the racks in the changing room, along with your life jacket and bib and leave your helmet in the bins. If you enjoyed your session (we are sure you will!) and want to improve further, remember to drop by Reception to pick up your voucher for your next session at JUST £10! (This offer is for beginner sessions only).
Boat Sessions
Choosing to ski on the boat means you will get your own dedicated boat and instructor for your course when you will learn to either water ski or wakeboard. The beginner courses cost £65 for adults (with 3 x 15 minute session on the water) or £45 for children (2 x 15 minute sessions). You will need to book this as all our boat sessions are pre-allocated. To do so either follow the book online link on www.jbski.com or follow this link: http://jb-bookings.co.uk/SecuredDefault.asp and then click on the new user registration. As all our sessions are pre-booked you will need to supply credit card details when you register. Alternatively you can ring Reception on 0870 6061270 and they will take you through the booking process. Please note we only teach beginners on these courses as they offer you the best opportunity to succeed and we offer a money back guarantee if we do not teach you to ski or ride!
On the day of your course please arrive half an hour early. You will need swimming costume / shorts, a towel and a warm top for putting on between your sessions if it is cold. If you forget anything don’t worry as we have everything in our shop. Cross the bridge and turn left to Reception to check in for your course. We will confirm the times of the sessions and explain which lake you will be skiing / riding on. You will then be asked to watch our instructional and health & safety DVD so you will be well aware of the teaching process. You can also watch this on line before you arrive at the lake at http://www.jbski.com/videos/4 - Boat Instructional Video. You will then be issued with your wet suit and life jacket and you go and get changed. The JBSki wet suits all have zips up the back and JBSki on the outside on the front and also on the INSIDE on the front and back we have printed FRONT & BACK! Wet suits need to be a little tight to work properly so once you have squeezed in to the suit put on your life jacket. Please note all beginners must wear wet suits to prevent the delicate parts of your body.
Once kitted up it’s out to the lake to meet your instructor and to have your sessions. Do not leave any clothes or bags in the changing rooms but bring them with you as you can put them in the boat during your sessions. We keep all the skis and boards at the dock so you do not have to carry these around. You will be having 3 x 15 minute sessions which will normally be taken an hour apart. Skiing and riding is pretty intensive so after 15 minutes you will be quite tired so the break allows you to recover your energies. If it is cold (and you will be wet when you come off the water so more susceptible to cold) then it’s worth going and getting changed and having something to eat or drink. Ask Reception nicely and they may even give you a dry wet suit for your remaining sessions. Once you have finished get changed and leave your wet suit the right way round on the racks in the changing rooms. We are confident you will have enjoyed your sessions so drop back in to Reception and check the offers we are running to help you improve further
Whichever sport and whether you choose to get on the water behind the Boat or on the Cable you can be assured of the very best tuition and maximum achievement at JBSki.
